About CLYMB

The Crystal Lake Community was selected by USA Basketball to be one of 12 pilot programs in the country for their new boys and girls basketball youth development curriculum in October of 2014.

CLYMB (Crystal Lake Youth Model for Basketball) is a 501(c)3 non-profit cooperative effort among the boys and girls coaching staffs at Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South, Prairie Ridge and local club teams. The goal of the program is to grow, teach, and protect the game of basketball in Crystal Lake.

All coaches involved in the program will become USA Basketball licensed coaches and undergo background checks and training.

Initially, CLYMB will focus on the first two levels of development as defined by USA Basketball - Introductory (typically K-4th grade) and Foundational (typically 5th-8th grade). The Advanced and Performance levels will be added as the program grows.

This program is designed to instill a love of the game in players at a young age while focusing on teaching the fundamental skills of basketball long before placing them in a 5-on-5 “live” competition they are ill-equipped to handle. Those situations only stunt proper development and foster the creation of bad habits, leading to bad basketball experiences. CLYMB will create a healthy environment for competition that does not sacrifice learning to play the game properly.

The CLYMB program does not interfere with those who make school teams or high school feeder teams, it is meant to work in conjunction with them and provide opportunities for those who do not make one of those teams and still want to play basketball, as well as rostered players who want additional skill training from USA Basketball Certified coaches.
